Protecting Your Child’s Teeth

Babies start getting their mild tooth at the end of six to nine months. These milk teeth fall when they are around the age of eight or nine. Then the new tooth grows within two or three months. The children should be taught to keep their tooth hygienically clean soon after they get their milk tooth. Even when they are a baby and get the milk teeth their teeth should be cleaned twice a day both in the morning and in the night with baby tooth paste which is harmless for them. As they grow up they get the habit of brushing the teeth in the morning and before going to bed.
Visiting the dentist if they have a problem is the habit of many parents. A child’s teeth can be examined whenever once in every six months so that even if a small decay in the tooth occurs the doctor will note it and fill the cavity. Gum recession is a common problem with everybody. Regular cleaning of the teeth by the dentist prevents gum recession.
Another problem all the young kids face is alignment of teeth. It gets aligned unevenly. This can be corrected by putting braces which keep giving pressure to the teeth and makes it move to the right position.
Care should be taken even when the baby is small. Certain habits which when avoided help to keep the teeth healthy. Even before the baby gets the teeth their gums should be cleaned while giving them bath. Do not put the bottle or sucker s in the mouth which will develop a bad habit of sucking something all the time. Take the child to the dentist when he reaches the age of one and ask him to see if there is any chance of tooth decay.
The child’s teeth should be protected even before it renews .If the milk tooth falls due to cavity then the next tooth will also be affected. So brush the teeth for the babies as well with fine soft brush. The bush should be moved in a circular motion since it will remove the plaque formed. Children’s tooth paste can be used after one year. Avoid using adults tooth paste as it contains fluoride.
Once they reach the age of one they should be taken to a doctor and he will advise the amount of fluoride that can be used. Excess fluoride will increase the risk of cavities and gum diseases. As they grow older they play a lot and participate in school sports and tend to get injured. So teach them to play safe. At the young age itself they should be taught to protect their teeth.
